Description

Candy Pop Saga is a match-three game in the style of the hit puzzle game Candy Crush Saga.

Fun, but unoriginal

The idea of Candy Pop Saga is the same as Candy Crush Saga, and countless other match-three (or match-two in this case) games before it: hit clusters of two or more same-shaped objects to pop them and make them disappear. The remaining objects will then fall into the gaps that were previously occupied by the shapes in the cluster you made.

In each level of Candy Pop Saga you must burst a specified number of candy shapes in order to pass to the next level. You must do this within a given number of moves. As you move through the levels, the number of shapes to burst gets higher and the number of permitted moves gets lower!

Candy Pop Saga is enjoyable to play, though it lacks that something special in its gameplay to lift it above all the other titles in this genre. There are only two, rather dull power-ups that simply remove a line or a column, and the gameplay gets very repetitive.

Like taking candy from a baby

Playing Candy Pop Saga is very straightforward, and all you need to do is tap on a cluster of matching shapes to make them disappear. The first few levels are tediously easy but then things start getting interesting after this, when you're suddenly faced with having to burst lots of shapes with very few goes.

Sweet to taste

Candy Pop Saga is almost as sickly sweet as the game from which it took its inspiration, Candy Crush Saga. In fact, the graphics are a bit too shiny. The reflection effects on each candy object are a bit of a distraction and the game is inclined to give you a headache after too much play!

Sound isn't great: there's no in-game music and the limited sound effects in Candy Pop Saga are underwhelming.

The verdict

Candy Pop Saga is fun to play - just because match-three games are always good fun. However, it makes no effort to innovate on the genre and its presentation is mediocre.
